love story

I won't love you she said
as they lay sprawled
on her great double bed
each one bathed
in the other's scent
limpid and languid
and totally spent

I won't love you she said
but I really enjoy these rare afternoon
I wish they were more often
and not over so soon

I won't love you she said
so just sort out your clothes
from mine on the floor
and please one last kiss
before we part at the door

I won't love you she said
as he left head held high
too proud to turn
didn't know she waved goodbye
each of her tear tracing it's track
down her sad white face
watching his retreating back
out of sight
in the gathering dusk
of that falling autumn night

I won't love you she'd said ........
