Hurts Too Much
Hurts Too Much
You called today and for a brief moment
I wanted to believe in you
that you realized all you did and wanted to say sorry
and secretly I wished for the words I love you at the end
your voice crackled on my answering machine
the tears hung heavy in your voice
than it was my choice
it just hurts too much
I talked to grandmother later
and she told me what you wanted
your stupid cat was dying
you wanted someone to listen to you
you wanted my sympathy
I hated myself for thinking anything had changed
I am too old for these tricks you pull
wishing for a mother's touch
but I can't bring myself to that place
because it just hurts too much
I cried today over you
even though we don't even speak
I cried not for one particular reason
but for all of them
it just hurts, you know....it goes so deep
it just hurts way too much....
