Rog's Rhymes~~~A River Winding

A River Winding
I saw a frozen river winding, white with newly fallen snow
And I dreamed of river walking that I did so very long ago
On a cold windless day the stark beauty without a color lay
And proclaimed its silent grandeur in countless shades of gray

What joy to walk in solitude a river winding on a cold winter's day
With only my own footprints to show I'd come this frozen way
It seemed as if I was all alone in this white world, just myself and I
As I dreamed and thought of the ancients beneath the cold gray sky

How many winters has this river winded among its tree lined banks
And how many have awed the beauty and gave their silent thanks
It seems such a simple thing, the creator gave us, some would say
Yet before you scorn, walk a frozen river winding on a cold winter's
day
