Words and Verse
Speak not of love!
"Quiccumque ille fuit, puerum qui pinxit Amorem,
Nonne putas miras hunc habuisse manus?
Is primum vidit sine sensu viver amantis…"
-Propertius, Carmina II (I-III)
Speak not of love! Speak not of us!
In fact, don't say a single thing!
For any sound might well disturb
Wee Cupid o'er us hovering.
Instead just lend your lips to mine
And lean a little closer. So
That he might pierce the two of us
With just one arrow from his bow.
***
And once that archer from above
Has shot us with one arrow through,
Then let the two of us not move.
Let's stay, caressing, I and you.
Nonne putas miras hunc habuisse manus?
Is primum vidit sine sensu viver amantis…"
-Propertius, Carmina II (I-III)
Speak not of love! Speak not of us!
In fact, don't say a single thing!
For any sound might well disturb
Wee Cupid o'er us hovering.
Instead just lend your lips to mine
And lean a little closer. So

Then let the two of us not move.
Let's stay, caressing, I and you.
