Spiritually Disciplined

Proverbs 22:1-6

A good name is worth more than wealth,
Respect is much more valuable than gold;
Just as important maintaining good health,
Evenly crucial are spiritual values to hold.

The Lord is the Creator both rich and poor,
Both of them take chances in their lives;
But a wise man is not tempted by a lure,
Following a righteous path as he strives.

The reward with having a gentle spirit,
As long as you have the fear of the Lord;
For wealth, honor and life as you inherit,
When you are abiding within His Word.

Potholes and detours obstruct the sinful,
But the righteous watches over the soul;
As his by-passes on a road for the faithful,
That has free access and having no toll.

If a child is trained right from the start,
He will follow the righteous path in life;
As the Word will be engraved in his heart,
Keeping him from having too much strife.

Discipline must be part of growing up in the life of every child.  Unfortunately, there has been a void in that subject during the last half of the twentieth century.

This is not a situation isolated to one country or a particular region.  It is wide-spread throughout the world.  Nearly every country is experiencing it no matter where.  The problem actually seems to be getting worse rather than better.

We have become a more permissive society, allowing our kids to explore new realms at a younger age on their own.  I see the same thing happening here in Korea as I did in the States.  In fact, it may well be more evident here.  When I came in the 1970s to Korea, the kids were very well mannered.  They were very respectful to their elders, always obeying and never talking back or arguing with them.

I found in a relatively short time span that many kids have become rude and arrogant.  They chronically complaining and arguing, showing disrespect.  Some of the reasons could very well be the same anywhere in the world.  It might be the fact of the two household incomes.  Parental guidance is from slim to none because both parents are working.  The TV and computer have become the parents.

It does not take a village to raise a child, just a righteous mother and father that have the fear of the Lord abiding in the Word.  Between the two of them, they are able to ensure that a child is spiritually disciplined.
