The Music of New Orleans Will Not Die

The Music of New Orleans will not die
September 2, 2005

New Orleans is a city in the southland
The Mardi Gras it's favorite time of year
People come from all across this great land
To parades and magic of the sounds they hear

The city of New Orleans is in trouble
Levies broke when Katrina's winds did blow
They need our help sent out there on the double
To save some folks that we don't even know

But listen to the music of the southland
It's playing somewhere in the dark tonight
Though thousands have been silenced here on one hand
We know our nation's going to do what's right

The Red Cross and the Guard, they got together
They sent food and water to help them there
The people on the roof tops wait forever
For the helicopters rescue from the air

The music in the air is overwhelming
I cried each time another song was sung
But I sat there at home anticipating
That everything that could was being done

Last night I saw a man with his horn blowing
On a corner telling folks that music lives
He played the kind of music that is going
That is the kind that simply gives and gives

He's playing for a simple resurrection
To tell folks that the City didn't die
I'll see him though he'll get no recognition
Every time I see the flood before my eyes

The Music of New Orleans lives on somewhere
Musicians play with heart and soul and kind
B. B. King and others like him out there
Will be playing in New Orleans in their mind

Oh the City of New Orleans is forever
Though it's down now it will simply rise again
For the Music in the City's very clever
It's between the Mississippi and Poncetrain

For the people of New Orleans, we are praying
To God's care we raise our voices way up high
Let us Pray and Praise, He'll know just what we're saying
We will see that city rise before our eyes
And the Music of New Orleans will not die
