On the Wings of a Dream

August 30, 2005

I was softly dreaming
The night was warm and fine
The darkness didn't bother
Like it used to all the time
I stretched a bit with wonder
And opened up my eyes
There was no one around me
That was a big surprise

Oh yes, they all were gathered
And watched me to protect
They looked surprised I'd woken
Though something had touched my neck
The stillness all around me
Was proof that I was safe
But someone whispered gently
“We're guarding you and place”

I'd dreamed about tomorrow
And things I planned to do
The poems that I was writing
And doing artwork too
I dreamed about the feeling
Of water on my skin
I knew I had been swimming
With all my dolphin friends

A Fairy touched me gently
And asked, “Are you awake -
You must not go a wandering
Outside, for heaven's sake”
I laughed and told her sweetly
“My walking days are done
Or I'd go out a dancing
In your circle just for fun”

You know, my heart is beating
A pitter pat it goes
It isn't on the race track
Where it sometimes loves to go
My head feels light and airy
Not heavy or in pain
No fever and no hot spots
I'm better once again

Oh there are wings around me
There is an angel near
A gentle kiss is given
I don't have any fear
Dear Grand mom came to visit
Just like she used to do
The scent of Jasmine follows
It makes me know it's true

I'm touched, my hair is tousled
By one who knows me well
I didn't know he watched me
It makes me hurt a spell
To know that he remembers
And loves me still today
Gives me a special felling
That will never go away

Awake, I look around me
My friends are all around
They say they will stay with me
Until I'm in the ground
That day is far, they tell me
I've books that I must write
So all in all I must say
This has been quite a night

Thank you for all the caring
That brings me through each day
Thank you for all the sharing
I'll listen for always
