Sittin' by the side of the lake,
Worms at my feet, a piece of old steak,
A fishin' pole in my hands,
With a sinker that's deep,
And a bobber to alert me,
Should I fall asleep.
In the shade of a cottonwood tree
I'll be found,
surveyin' the lake
And God's beauty around.
The warmth of the noonday sun
Can't reach me here.
Cool and comfortable,
And “a tad bit” lazy, I fear.
No place to go, no need to hurry.
If the fish don't bite, it won't be a worry.
Got lunch packed up the road in the back of my car
Just enjoyin' the day, the best one by far!!!
‘Till the sunset has rested way far in the west,
I'll sit here and think~~~for that's what I do best.
Rememberin' times you were sittin' here with me.
And I'd bait your hook, oh, the mem'ries I see.
Your look as you stared off into outer space;
The peace and the joy I can see on your face.
Or you'd sing a country tune, humming a few bars.
I'd join in, and we'd sing until we “saw stars”.
Or we'd dance to some really ole melody,
I'm holdin' you in my arms, I remember~~~~ vividly.
Then one day, too soon, Our Precious Lord called you home.
So I come fishin' now, but I'm not alone.
For each time that I come to this beautiful place
By the lake, near the cottonwood, I feel God's Grace.
You are walkin' with Him, and He is walkin' with me,
So we are walkin',
hand-n-hand,
you, God and me.
Someday, very soon, He will bid me "come home",
And we'll go fishin', you and I, never more will we roam,
And He'll find us a lake, with a cottonwood tree.
‘Till then, my love, I'm happy as I can be.
