Terror Like Nothing On Earth!!!

Pure unadulterated terror; like nothing on earth!
Terrified, rooted to the spot…
The man to the left of me had a gun,
And I was in direct line for his shot!
Within touching distance, oh the fear,
I was shaking, my throat was constricted!
We moved behind a brick post in the store,
Movements so totally restricted!
Hat on his head, acting weird,
He took the gun in his hand and held on tight,
We were trying to get Emma the shop girl…
To duck down and get out of sight!
But she didn't know what we meant,
And looked to us with confused eyes wide!
Throwing our arms up and down we were,
Oh God but the fear I felt inside.

She looked towards us, not comprehending;
What it was we were trying to say!
And he was in front of her all this time,
Oh God, why were we here this day!
Then the shout went out, ‘GET DOWN!'
She looked to us showing fear,
He'd put the gun on the counter,
The terror in her face was so clear!
She didn't duck; she dived to the floor,
While we tried to hide out of sight!
And all the time, in touching distance,
Oh how I wished that we could take flight!
But we were rooted to were we where,
So utterly terrified was I right then!
Then suddenly, screaming, yelling!
He was surrounded in guns by policemen!

They took him from behind,
And like a scene of violence on TV,
The madness of it all, the fear of it all,
Was so much, too much for me!
The man scared me with the gun!
But the screaming of the police feared me more!
Because it made it so real, so scary,
As they screamed again, ‘Get down on the floor!!!'
Screaming, yelling; ‘Get your hands up!
And get on the floor, right now!!!
Do it, get on the floor!' He said! ‘Do it!!'
Oh God, I was sick inside and how!
I wanted to run, not be there!
Then they threw him to the floor,
I wanted out, I needed out!
But the police had locked the door!

I watched as though in slow motion,
I looked at the faces of the man and police!
Shaking in fear, I was so very near,
It was so terrifying to say the least!
We moved further away from the post,
As an elderly woman walked so near,
I stopped her; said the police had a man with a gun;
Don't know if she heard me clear?
Because onward she walked, oh God I was scared,
I went after her and grabbed her tight,
She screamed out load, I scared her I know!
But I was still in fear and fright!
I never let go, I dragged her back with me,
Shouting the police had a man with a gun!
She looked at me shocked; took it in,
Realised what she'd almost done!

We hid in another isle out of sight,
And there I felt a little relief,
I was shaking and shocked,
And didn't know fear could cause such grief!
I was being strangled, my throat was tight,
The terror within me true…
Was out of sight, was off the scale!
I didn't know what to do!
I wanted to run, to hide away,
Didn't want to be there at all!
There was a shout, the police told us to move;
Further nearer the wall!
They took him with guns!
Through the back doors of the store,
I still shaking and in tears!
And I couldn't take any more!

I held onto the hand of Emma,
We were shaking and tearful together,
So terrified for she, so terrified for me,
And a fear not to forget, not ever!

And then I left the shop in tears…
Hoping never to experience that again!
And still I cried the rest of the day!
And still I cry now this night!
I will never forget it!
How can you forget something as violent as that?
You can't…I can't!
