 there used to be two

there used to be two
just me and her
we used to make
a very good pair
I added another
made it a three
now I'm alone
there's only me
sitting under the table
feeling so down and blue
being on your own
not much to do
I cleaned all the house
spruced up her chair
spend all my nights
willing her there
I've weeded her garden
and it's probably too late
but after all these years
I've mended the gate
but oh my lord
this house is so bare
no longer a home
now she's no longer there
the new moon looks so clean
the cleanest for years
through eyes that have been
so washed with tears
the sky could fall in
I wouldn't notice or care
this world is so dark
now she's no longer there
there used to be two
just me and her
we used to make
a very good pair
I added another
made it a three
now I'm alone
there's only me
