My Godmother passed away
Oh, my heart weeps for the day
When she was just a little child
On a farm on the Iowa prairie wild.
All she saw in her 98 plus years!!!
Boggles my mind, I see, through tears,
The school she attended no longer stands
It's just a part now, of Iowa prairie land.
She married Clifford when she was just 18,
Their love produced a darling daughter in year number three.
Lillian had her mother's style, and gave of herself that “extra” mile.
Five long years later, Richard joined the family.
Clifford and Edna were as happy as could be.
They lived their lives in our home town in the sticks.
God called Clifford home, when she was only 46.
She struggled through years of living alone,
Until she met Bill~~~~and a new love was born.
They married and enjoyed life, retiring finally.
Until God called Bill in September, '82, ~~~~
Then Dick in April, '83.
Through all this pain and hurt she and Lillian stood alone.
Drawing strength from each other,
And with God to lean upon.
Until the spring of 1990, when God called Lillian home,
How did she ever find the strength she needed to go on!!!!
Perhaps God relieves the mind in ways that we don't understand.
Edna's last years were spent in Alzheimer's “forgotten land.”
But through it all her dignity and faith remained.
“When Morning Guilds the Skies”, was her sweet refrain.
I have two Godmothers, due to illness as an infant.
I have loved them both, and was never sorry for an instant.
That God would grant me two Godmothers,
I felt special, don't you see????
98 long years~~~ she spent with her family.
And, oh, the happy memories racing back to me!!!
Her constant smile, her gentle ways, her hospitality.
Her love, her strength, her steadfast faith,
Mean the entire world to me.
