Poetic-Verses from ATHANASE

To Euxane (or Auxane) - (English)

a baby of 15 months

You are, my beloved son, the dawn that comes
every day to bathe my heart in bright fire,
you are the deep fear that good fortune brings,
that makes my hands tremble and my heart fill with love.

You are, my dear son, the night of all nights
when heavenly spirits illuminate the stars
singing and touching our marvelling eyes,
our weak mortal bodies lovingly with their radiant veils.

You are, my sleeping angel, that most exquisite point in time
when even vast eternities bow down,
that Eucharistic dream, that Bible of azaleas

which is the perfect essence, the epicentre of life!
You are, my sweet child, the blood that pounds through me
weaving from every moment a river of joy!

Translated into English by the great British poet Norton Hodges
