Poetic-Verses from ATHANASE

Haiku For A Prince (English)

Version One:

A frail woman's voice from behind the paper screen,
her mauve shadow gliding like birds' wings across the surface of a calm lake.
Why hope, my dear Prince,
when tomorrow at dawn, Mutsiko
leaves our house for ever?

Version Two:

From behind the screen
a woman sings a frail song -
wings across the lake -
why hope, my dear prince,
when tomorrow, at first light,
she leaves for ever?
