Absent Minded

Poetry is not the words on
The page, but the meaning thereafter
It is being guided to an understanding of life momentarily
Through the writer's eyes.
You feel them
You experience their thoughts
You follow their logic to their
Conclusion, through memories
And dreams, and metaphor.
Only when you uncover the true
Understanding of the intention of
The piece, is it revealed to you
That your emotions, thoughts, and
Understanding is the true poetry.
And if you choose to use
The inspiration the poet was given
Through his contemplation of life
And its meaning, its beauty
From coincidence and synchronicity
To answer his or her questions or
Show them another way or point
To ponder. Make it known to
The world that you are a witness
A helpless victim to the power of the writer who strummed
Your senses like a harp
