Businessman

I am a business man he said
And he said it every day
But while he was busy talking
His business slipped away
It may be a truism
But also very true
It's not about what you say
It's about what you do
Words are very fine
But what a business needs
Is for all those fine words
To be backed with finer deeds

I am a businessman he said
All around the town
As his competitors thought
What an amiable clown
And he didn't pay his bills
Or his telephone rent
And he couldn't buy his goods
As his credit rating went
The last time that I saw him
He was making future plans
Still telling all the world
He was a business man
