EARTH DAY, 1996Green pastures And rolling hills Of God's good Earth My heart was filled* Fields and fields Of wheat so green For miles and miles Is what I seen Little colts With their mother mares Spring's life-giving vote Is what God shares The road was rough The trip was good My eyes drank in The meadow wood I finally reached That powerful place Where rivers teach you Life's to face The beauty God gives all with eyes The mountains and the changing colors Of the skies The water rushing Giving you strength I sat at the fork of the river And thanked God for nature For my eyes, ears, and hands And the passion it gives To our promised land For small flowers Yellow, purple, white For big powers Of rebirth to them with the sunlight For birds warning others She's on the trail Their musical voices They tell, they tell Thankful for the hours I had that day To leave town behind Just me and nature play Our land is a King Here in the Northwest And life it will bring To those who love it best. *4/22/1996 1900 cj 5/6/1996 2030 (nurses' day) cj Vote for this poem
