Regression

I wake up every morning
Full of fear and dread
Wondering if I can find
The will to slide out of bed
Work my way towards it
Just try a little more
Just a final effort and
One foot hits the floor
Stagger to the kitchen
Load up with caffeine
Each morning seeming worse
Than any there have ever been
The mirror is unkind
To my face in shaving foam
Just one quick shave to last
Until I get back home
When I can't avoid it any longer
When there's no other choice
I paint on my working face
Assume my working voice
Thus garbed and ensconced
Within my protective hide
I go and face the world
Crying deep down inside
All the world's a stage
At least that's what they say
I know because I act my part
There every single day
