M's Poetry

One Chance, One Life

Don't be tempted by the dirty money
said my mama
don't look back...don't turn out like me
Hunger only for a world of truth
cuz the truth is so elusive
and all you will ever have is this one chance
this one life

I was a pretty young girl once she said
I had dreams I had high hopes.....
I married a man stoled my heart away
he gave his love but what a price I paid
cuz all you will ever have is this one chance
this one life

Why did I fall for him, is anybodies guess
Thought we would make a happily ever after story
the child I bore was the best thing I ever did
but not even a child can be yours forever
one can never posses another
and all in this world I can ever control is me

I thought thought that I could find a way
To beat the system
To make a deal and have no debts to pay
but the past has a way of catching up
and just maybe this is my punishment
for all these deeds done in the dark
and if I could do it all over again
I wouldn't have sold my soul to the devil
to try and buck the establishment

so here I am all I can do now is dream
of this world where I can wake up
with a clear conscience and clean hands
cuz all you ever have is just one chance
to impress upon the world who you are
after the prints are down they are mighty hard to erase
and this one life can be forever changed by just
one choice....
