M's Poetry

He Died Today

He died today all skin and bones
medals all covered in dust
in the bed he grew up in as a child
he didn't cry, just slightly smiled
told me it was okay
he would soon be in a better place

He died today with family just downstairs
with the window open
and the wind blowing
leaves have turned their colors
and with the sun peeking beyond the clouds
he took his last breath
and closed those blue eyes

He died today, nothing but everything changed
the world didn't stop
and only the people he loved acknowledged him
but I know while here he did touch lives
he loved beyond just the words
people often say without even thinking
because he touched my heart in the deepest spot
right down there quietly at the bottom

He died today, the hearse is now outside
the announcement will soon hit the papers
he is just words in a column to all the others
but he was more than just a boy to me
he was my brother......
