Foolhardy, speed freak!!!

I was driving along at a steady pace,
A van came towards me, was this a race?
Coming right at me, I knew we'd crash!
His van hit my wing mirror with an almighty bash!
He'd tried to jump ahead, in such a small place!
As he hit my car, I saw fear on his face!
I could have touched his face, he was that close!
He never hit head on - but I was as white as a ghost!

He overtook a bus, tried to squeeze through a gap!
But he misjudged, and then he hit me with a zap!
I saw the look on his face; he was as white as snow,
But he put his foot down, and was determined to go!
So off he sped, while we sat and shook in fear!
Oh God, but he came up way too near!
The mirror indented in my drivers' door glass!
We were very lucky that it didn't smash!

Scored into the glass, as though the mirror was there,
Indented and sharp, as sharp as my fear!
And the electric windscreen and drivers window,
Now fail to work, it was such a harsh blow!
But the score on that window brought it home to me!
Just how lucky we are, for another day to see!
I pulled the car over in a little side street!
Looked round the corner shaking on my feet!

The impact was harsh and it split the frame!
And now I am terrified to drive it again!
But he had shot off, a man?  No, a coward is he!
For to drive off and get away is all he could see!
He hit my car with the headlamp of his van!
I hope it's damaged and he's shaking, as I am!
In 25 years of driving I've done, never a bump have I had!
And now this fool has opened my eyes, and that's sad!

I have to say yes, I never closed my eyes all night!
For what this fool had done, caused more than a fright!
In a flash it was over, the fear, oh my!
When I had calmed down I started to cry!
Not much of an accident, just a bump, I hear you say?
Well no, not to me, I for I am lucky this day!
I must have had an Angel on my shoulder!
To allow me less hurt and more time to get older!

For a ‘little' bump like that could cost my life!
Because I have a problem that causes much strife!
I've a hole in my head, when the tumours grew!
So what is major to me; is maybe not as much to you!
For I have no skull, just skin over the brain!
And the; if, buts and maybes are driving me insane!
I have never been overly worried about this before,
Never having a bump!  Now I'm scared so much more!!

And he drove off; never give us another thought in his head!
But the hard hit that it was, I could have been dead!
How we avoided a head on, I'll never know or understand!
For it was only speedy reaction that fate lent a hand!
I pulled to the left, he pulled to the right!
But by God it was so close; it gave such a fright!!
And at night in my bed, oh the fear in me,
Blinded by that fear, it was all I could see!

And now when I see the scar on my window of the car,
I will always remember how very lucky we are!
And to know that it hit so hard it caused that scar,
I am oh, so thankful that mine's a big car!

Anything smaller would have been a different story!
And he sped off at the speed of light!
A man, no!  A coward!

And now I can't get in the car...
Without feeling sick!
