 My today's thoughts

Tall Grass Prairie

Tall Grass Prairie

A large brown signed welcome us as we entered the
Tall Grass Prairie Preserve in Oklahoma
On each side of the gravel road,  prairie grass and wild flowers
were robed in a vast array of brilliant  colors that no artist could duplicate

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the distance the road  kissed  the crystal blue sky
laced with ribbons of white clouds
The wind carried the sweet fragrance of fresh flowers
A herd of buffaloes, large shaggy bison, grazed contentedly
completely ignoring us
My mind traveled back in time to when they were free to
roam over this vast country
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We heard the call of the whippoorwill as we said good-bye
to the huge mammals
and spied a whitetail deer nibbling tender shoots of green grass
 We were greeted by a scissor-tail flycatcher on a tree branch
Then saw  what looked like a sandpiper perched on a fence post
The sun grew warm
There was a great eagle flying high the sky

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
America is a wonderful place to see and to live
Here in the heartland
we were witnesses to see some of  God's greatest creations
The tall grass waved good-bye to us as the sun
in golden splendor set in the west
