Angel on the Christmas Tree

Dear angel on the Christmas tree
Oh, please won't you watch over me?
My mom and dad have gone away-
I think they have forgotten me.

‘Twas Christmas Day one year ago
That I saw tire tracks in the snow.
They packed the car up while I slept,
And where they've gone, I still don't know.

I don't know what I did that's bad,
But guess I must have made them mad.
Or they would not have left me here-
Their little girl, with heart so sad.

I live now in a foster home-
Am grateful not to be alone.
But they don't really care for me
As if I were their very own.

So angel on the Christmas tree
If you could just watch over me,
And maybe hug me once or twice-
Then not so lonely will I be.

And on this very special day,
For just one present I shall pray.
That you will find my mom and dad-
And bring them home on Santa's sleigh.
