She wrapped him in wool to keep him warm.
Late spring sun glowing in a breeze.
Holding him close to keep him from harm,
She played with him sitting on her knees.
Her intent was to marry her lover so fair,
but he left unannounced in the night.
With no on to help or even to care,
she wept as she kept her baby from sight.
They came to chastise her, to prevent her from keeping,
the son she had struggled to feed.
They took him away while she stood there weeping,
with not a care for a woman in need.
So many years with nary a trace of the son she left behind.
She couldn't even remember his face, life can be so unkind.
They never did meet, mother and son though it wasn't for the lack of trying.
Her time came to pass as she withered and died released from her life of crying.
