A child stands in the corner,
tears flow freely from his eyes.
Torn from his security and bonds,
he struggles to comprehend the lies.
Surrounded by strangers he waits,
hoping the source of his comfort will return.
That soothing croon that calms his fears,
but she's left for the final time he will learn.
Gone are the promises of protection and love
slowly he realizes his inevitable fate.
His throat constricts, heart sinking a little deeper,
as he stands his corner vigil, he waits.
Fear not little one, they stand with outstretched hands.
He listens to them coax and invite him to blend
with this new family and give up his past.
Your mother is gone and now your heart must mend.
The child turns away and looks out the window,
hoping to catch a glimpse of her one last time.
Wanting her to say it will be all right,
as he finally gives up what once was mine.
