This poem is a modified Villarreal employing the repetition of the 3 lines of the first stanza in the succeeding stanzas as a means of creating a feeling of inevitability.

Today I realized I'm only two years away from sixty.
Time ran fleet of foot very swiftly onward.
Youth, vigor and beauty, ran in tandem.
In childhood I longed to be grown.
When mature I felt I had accomplished all.
I knew at fifty I had come into my own.
I'm told sixty is not old in today's new age system.
Time ran fleet of foot very swiftly onward.
Youth, vigor and beauty, ran in tandem.
It seems too soon for the golden years.
I have not experienced all that there is.
Today I realized I'm only two years away from sixty.
Some dreams fulfilled, some turned to ashes.
Regrets I have only in fleeting flashes.
Time ran fleet of foot very swiftly onward.
Youth, vigor and beauty, ran in tandem.
I do not mourn what is past or fear what is to come.
My sleep is deep, for all of life I embrace and welcome.
Time runs fleet of foot very swiftly onward.
