"Life's winding road"
With the sun in your eyes, moon at your back
Glance in the rear view mirror to see our own past gone astray
Shadows follow, tail gate behind, turn directional signals
Look over the dash to see the horizon of the brand new day
Crossing roads with speeding limits
A path of slants and turns, bumps and dips
Intersecting lives from e merging lanes
Blacktop holes, needing a patching fix
As you look both ways for the traffic to clear
Yielding the right away to motorists stopping for gas
There's a squad car racing with a cherry on top
And icing, causing a gapers block, up on the overpass
Wide open throttle, pass with care, don't miss your exit
Drive too close to the edge, hit the gravel shoulder
In a heartbeat, slam on the brakes, stop and go pattern
Slippery side streets with no outlet, gain confidence, grow bolder
Railroad crossing, don't stop on the tracks
Icy corners, darkened tunnels, blind spots, high beam lamps
Hazard lights flashing, sirens sound to pull over
Park, Reverse, Over-drive, express lanes with no exit ramps
Drivers Ed, hands on wheel, at ten and two, rules and regulations
Boundaries to see and help steer the course, traffic court cases
There's a rough surface, with barricades and speed bumps
Signs numbered with letters of unknown familiar places
Repeated dashing white lines, solid orange for caution
Getting lost, starting over, drive aimlessly with the directional flow
Lights, red, green and yellow, marking the way
Doing 360's in the parking lot with six inches of snow
Speed up to slow down and pay your toll, exact change use this lane
Veer right in order to merge left, down a winding road, a broken shock
Bound and determined, strapped to your seat, you made your choice to go this way
Destination, next four exits, retrace your baby steps, to a four way stop
Some streets are narrow, others four lane
Life is but a maze, traffic jams and grid locks
Median barriers, concrete retaining walls, grassy lands
Where the oncoming traffic never stops
With mountains to climb, rivers to cross and valleys below
Pavement stops, the bridge is out, detours, with one way to go
By-pass the construction zone where the fines are doubled
You've reached a dead end, look within, and your heart knows
There's a fork in the road, with a jack-knifed truck blocking all lanes
You come to a screeching halt, as the rush hour stands still at a crawl
Put the peddle to the metal, burn rubber, you're in a no passing zone
Take the alternate route, only to find you went the right way after all
Do what it takes to find your way back
Someone up above is watching over, as you roam
Believe in yourself, make your own choices along the way
Visions of your love, it's your heart that steers you home
Life is made up of dirt roads and concrete highways
Row houses and architecturally unique homes design
Mother Earth moved and bull dozed over
Father Time sets a speed trap, catches you every time
Following the North Star, leading us not into temptation
Guardian Angels guide us with wings of love
Seeking directions through private talks with God
We make our own choices, when push comes to shove
Defining direction to map out your route, distance gauged
Decisions to make, places to go, people to see, each and every day
Out for a drive today, seeing the beauty of Nature from the passing lanes
Leaves falling, Autumn's way. colours abound, you went the wrong way
Is anyone home when the door opens wide
Or have they boarded a winged vessel, gone on a magic carpet ride
The choices you make of your own personal choosing
Destinations unknown, saved merely by destiny on your side
As that avenue is now closed, decisions, decisions, of which way to go
Left turn, right turn, U-turn, S-curve, they all lead back to you
Rose petals, left like bread crumbs, lead the trail
Listen to your heart, and your soul knows what to do
