I dont believe in New Year's resolutions.
My last major epiphany took place in July,
which gently nudged me in a new direction.
I aspire to make positive changes
when spirit moves me.
Following tradition to make a resolution
on one particular day,
ready or not,
sets up the poor, uninspired soul for failure.
Fitness centers are delightedly crammed to capacity
at the onset of each year
with hopeful, over indulged patrons,
holding unrealistic expectations,
wanting to achieve the impossible
in the wink of an eye.
By Valentine's Day, the gym becomes a ghosttown,
leaving the new resolutions unfulfilled
and new members holding a year's contract
in their chubby hands,
and the taste of disappointment on their tongues.
Learn to listen to that inner voice
that guides your steps throughout the year,
affording you untold opportunities
to make adjustments along the way,
when you are ready,
no matter what the date.
That way, we happily celebrate New Year's
all year long.
