M's Poetry

Wise Man

He looked funny
the children called him the scarecrow
he wore life like a old raincoat
and baggy pants and sneakers
he found at the dump
on the side of the street
oh, but if you bothered to look
there was something behind the rags
Oh there was a look in his eyes
it was a feeling you'd never forget
He had once lived badly
A broken shack on the railway

Only one who replied
when he talked to the walls
we didn't understand
but we felt his pain
we were fooled by the dirt on his face
but more curious at what caused such a disgrace
and he said...

Strive not to be alone
try and fill your home
don't spend your life sitting down
take the chance
and out of one, that one could be
the one you always wanted
and don't settle for second best
never think you are are second fiddle
be who you are, not someone else's sidekick

Please realize the people that criticize
just don't know how to do
so just pray for them
and never give up
don't crumble when it gets rough
I am telling you one day
when everything is quiet
you will be lucky to have one true friend
so always look for honesty
it wins out in the end

And away he went, walking and mumbling
but I remember those words
like a melody in a song
and I am so glad I met that scarecrow
so glad I heard the words
of that wise man....
