Dad's Change
Dad's Change
Dad's change always jingled in his pocket
Sometimes when he was asleep I would sneak in and hock it
Dad's change came from a place at the end of our street
A place where people went to eat, drink, and meet
Dad's change was something we all wanted
What held him back was his self image haunted
Dad spent his evenings in a bar
I alone in my room dreaming of my first car
Waiting for Dad to change I cried a million tears
I became more like him over the years
I became a dad and my girls would ask for my change
Often like my Dad I was emotionally out of range
I tried to change for them a few times theses past years
Desperately wanting to overcome my own fears
I'm so glad for Dad and I today our change we have to share
We didn't know all we had to do was be honest and truly care
Dad's change always jingled in his pocket
Sometimes when he was asleep I would sneak in and hock it
Dad's change came from a place at the end of our street
A place where people went to eat, drink, and meet
Dad's change was something we all wanted
