mary murray

mary murray would smile at me
as we took a drink or two or three
sometimes maybe we'd just touch hands
we were only friends you understand
she had her loves and I had mine as well
sometimes we'd both giggle but never tell
often we'd sit there in brian's bar us two
when we both had nothing better to do
and we would talk and all the while
I would look at mary's smile
and sometimes ache inside deep
and think of her when I couldn't sleep
we decided to be .together one night
but it somehow didn't seem quite right
we had one kiss then laughter started
and mutually we quickly parted
a quick embrace then mary I think
said lets get to .brians's for a drink
its forty years since that day
I watched mary murray drive away
our course had come to an end
both said see you soon old friend
it wasn't to be and I regret so much
that mary and me just lost touch
I think I have total recall
still think fondly of them all
mick wilf bill titch and paddy
and the smile of mary murray
mary murray would smile at me
as we took a drink or two or three
we were only friends you understand
sometimes maybe we'd just touch hands
