Wood smoke hanging
In the still night air
A fragrance
To call its own
Bringing back memories
When she was there
Reminding him

Cosy the fire
It's leaping flame
A spectrum of colour
Dances from the wood
No warmth no glow
When he thinks her name
Trying to remember
When the times were good
Another log feeds the fire
To a scorching blaze
Still he cannot
Feel the heat
Self-pity taking over
As a rabid craze
Cold as ever
Love is in retreat
The fire eventually falters
Now a lowly glow
Should he rekindle the flame
With loving care?

The fire burns to nothing
Now completely out
Cold grey ashes lie
Where the fire once took place
Warmth now floods through him
