Reflections of My Perceptions
THE CHASE BY MARC A K REID
Attracted by your scent, I followed your lead
At least my eyes did, as you mingled in the midst
Of the forest, full of other predators, foraging
Like myself, hoping for signs of encouragement
I sought the weakest prey, but you left me weakened
And I was quite startled by a most promising glint
For when our eyes made contact, I was not dismissed
I initiated my pursuit, not wanting my intentions detected
However, in spite of my camouflage, my secret was revealed
Betrayed by a rush of happiness, unwillingly secreted,
It seemed well received, judging from your facial features
Still your eyes spoke to mine, I knew you felt cheated
You had at least hoped for some sense of mystery
Something to hold our interest, a moment's suspense
Because after all, the chase often gives the most enjoyment
So with myself, I too shared your silent annoyance
