RETURN TO ME
Many people have passed through my life,
Some cutting me like a sharp knife,
Others with love, truth and friendship,
In my heart their name I would chip.
Each has left a lasting impression on me
Opening my eyes and letting me see
The liars, cheats and con people, who have now gone
But with some of them the sun has shone.
Some gave me a gift, some took from me
But this is just life`s highways you see,
We leave something of ourselves behind
Hoping, in this, comfort they will find.
You think of someone and you smile
Bringing back the good times for a while
But they are gone and so you sigh,
It was nice to think and just say `Hi`.
A memory is a wondrous thing,
It can lift you up and make your heart sing,
It can give you back to me once again
And make my heart burn like a red hot flame.
I can hear your voice and see your face
And once more along the shores we can race
Or you can catch the kisses sent on the breeze
Or an `I Love You` that no one else sees.
I thought I had found a place in your arms forever
Where no-one, the ties between us would ever sever,
Oh! How wrong, so very wrong I was, the ties are broken
Along with my heart, although of this I have not spoken.
So passed through my life is what you did – and more
I can`t stop loving you, so there`s an open door,
Hoping one day you will return and mend my broken heart
So the feelings we had will be renewed and we`ll never part.
