Words unspoken, Words unread!

Goodbye Dad

We kicked around a football,
We fished upon the lake.
You even tried to teach me,
That armpit noise you make.

I'm now a man of thirty-four,
With children of my own.
I hope the love I give to them,
Is like the love that I was shown.

The day did come I'd hoped would not,
The saddest day of all.
The day that you, my Father,
Should answer heavens call.

Mum and I were with you,
As you quietly slipped away.
The illness that you'd fought so well,
Had taken you that day.

With a hard and heavy heart now Dad,
With my life I must get on.
I thank you for the love you gave,
In my mind you have not gone.
