Broken Trust

I faintly hear my mournful cry.
Blood races through my veins,
leaving a slow, angry burn in its wake.
Being taken for a fool shakes my foundation,
drops me to my knees.
Your broken trust is irreparable,
its shattered pieces strewn like
dust in the wind.
Was my love so disposable,
or did you just not deserve me?
You insult my intelligence with your smugness,
thinking your deplorable antics
would go undetected.
In the long run, I win.
This unexpected discovery
saves my grateful soul from inevitable misery,
delightfully proving my divine protection.
Goodbye to the red flags
and nagging, gutful stabbings.
New friends slide into your tepid spot
and distract me from this
undeserved pain of broken trust
and deception.
