Raised Victim

Much has been said of the damage done by the disease
Many thoughts expressed, many minds put to ease
There is however a point of view rarely represented
As seen through a window very darkly tinted
Appearing as a silhouette moving behind a screen
Acknowledged as an image but not often clearly seen
Preoccupied at times with stories of self destruction
Forgetting about the case of the unwilling abduction
There was one born victim and raised totally unaware
And placed as a pawn in a game not quite fair
Doomed for the beginning, behind from the start
Fighting desperately to win a place in a diseased heart
Never understanding nor comprehending in the least
Not demanding the whole of love, only a piece
Just enough to keep them warm at night
Just enough to help them sleep
Enough to stay in gas, water, and lights
And maybe, just maybe a little food to eat
Pondering undetected, what bad thing have I done
So many reasons to celebrate love, why can't I be one
Walking the road of despair, dress down in shame
Bathed and groomed in neglect, known by hurtful names
Kicked and bounced around like a playground ball
Treated like an enemy for no reason at all
With a dozen reasons to hate, even more ill words to say
Almost no room to love, but did so anyway
Remember those raised victim as you reminisce
Recognizing and being thankful you are not alone in this
