Musings by The Poet Loriet

If Only

I wish you felt more.
I wish you needed me more.
I wish you could love me
the way that I love you.

I become mesmerized
by your nearness,
unable to sleep,
so I stay awake
to watch the expressions
play upon your face.
I worry that
my restlesness
will disturb your
peaceful slumber.

I toss and turn,
wanting to touch you,
inching my legs towards yours,
brushing my hand against yours,
then leaving it there,
feigning un-awareness,
but I am intimately aware
of every move
your body makes.

Your eyes remain shut,
mouth parted slightly--
easy, even, shallow breaths
as your chest rises and falls
and I wonder what your dreams
consist of~ Am I in them?

I feel so peaceful
when I'm snuggling with you.
It's the most natural place
in the world for me,
and time just stands still.

No matter what else
is going on in my hectic life,
all my fears and worries dissolve
when I'm lying next to you.
There's just us,
nothing else
matters.

If you would merely say,

"Wait for me...
     Be with me...
          Love me...
               Believe in me..."

I would be faithfully yours,
but you won't say the words,
and I won't ask...

I'll just enjoy these fragile
dream-kissed moments,
etch them into my memories,
do whatever I can to keep them alive
and not shatter the magic...
and just keep hoping
that someday,
you'll love me
back.
