We laid on a blanket under the stars
With our fingers outlined the Big dipper and Mars
Watched the moon in its march across the sky
Did you see the shooting stars
Felt the cool breeze across our cheeks
Did you make wishes we would never say goodbye
Could we capture the wind and hold it tight
as it made the leaves on a willow tree dance the rumba
to an unheard band with delight
Smelt the honeysuckle kissing the air
with perfume so sweet
it made your equilibrium turn you weak
The crickets sang a courting tune searching for a mate
as fire flies with flashing tail
danced in their wake
God in His great love gave us this beauty to behold
what could be more complete
It is worth far more than silver and gold
We laid on a blanket under the stars
soft was the night the scent of honeysuckle heavy in the air
We counted the shooting stars with our finger outlined Mercury and Mars
