Can you guess of my pride, when you were first born?
Do you know how I felt, when I saw your tiny form?

When you grow older, and fly the safe nest,
Will you sense at my fear?  Or the pain in my breast!

I wonder what you'll think, because I worry, you see,
To what your thoughts are, of a mother like me!

Can you guess at my fears?  When I watch you go out!
Will you ever know?  What life's all about!

Will you know of the dangers?  That will lurk in your way!
When you're tempted to wrong...Will you stand up and say?

‘No, I shall not do it, I won't go along,'
‘For my mother instilled in me to know right from wrong!'

I worried and fretted, when you were ill and in pain...
And prayed very hard...For good health, once again!

So may all of the love that I feel in my heart,
And some of the knowledge...that I've tried to impart…!

…Act as a guide, in decisions you make...
And help you to choose the path you must take.

Now all I can do - now your childhood has flown,
Is quietly watch you compete on your own.

I know when you hold...A new life in your hand,
Only then comes the moment when you'll understand...

The reason behind...my worry and fuss, you see...
For then dawns the day, you'll be a mother like me!
