My friends have a pretty little birdhouse,
That sits just outside their door.
They awoke one morning and looked outside,
To find the birdhouse covered with snow.
They looked around for all the little birds,
Wondering where, oh where could they be.
But not one tiny bird could they find,
Not even one sitting on the limb of a tree.
As they watched quietly from the window,
Something suddenly began to move,
And the most beautiful bird they ever did see,
Came flying down from the big oak tree.
It was a pretty red cardinal, very tiny in size,
That had taken refuge from the snow,
It perched itself inside the birdhouse door,
Because it had no other place to go.
So they fed the little bird and it began to chirp,
As it softly seemed to say.
Thank you so much for this warm little shelter,
It's now my favorite place to stay.
