Poetic-Verses from ATHANASE
I Look Through The Window (English)
  for Hanz
'O dream how sweet, too sweet...'
Christina Rossetti
I look through the window:
it's already day my friend.
Dazzled, the blackbird musician hops
from primrose to primrose,
then back under the camellias, stops
and listens to the air's streaming melodies.
And suddenly, my friend,
from his tiny throat,
from his frail heaving throat
pours the first song of spring!
Don't be sad, my friend! Not you!
Let past days be; leave them to deal with sorrow!
You must open your tender heart to the dawn
and walk, without looking back,
to where the blue sky is reaching out its shining arms
towards your delicate face.
O my friend,
dream
how sweet,
too sweet!
translated from the French of Athanase Vantchev de Thracy by Norton Hodges
