As I Ponder Calvary
As I sit beneath this tree
Where Christ died at Calvary-
I ponder 'bout the sacrifice
That He made to save our lives.
A part of the Trinity,
He too is God- two of three.
He left the throne; took His place
In a sinful human race.
Born a babe of parents poor,
He walked through and shut the door
On heaven's gates, and became-
A willing lamb. He took blame
For the evil that we do.
Dying for Gentile and Jew.
There were no cries of "why Me?"-
He just knew what had to be.
He listened to all their lies-
And not once did He decry
Those who held Him in their hands-
Held our God, the holy Lamb.
His head crowned with crushing thorns-
His body lashed; His name scorned.
Wracked with pain, bone dry with thirst-
Thinking of His children first.
Nailed upon a rugged cross
To gain back what man had lost.
Knowing He's the only One-
Able to get this job done.
So, I ponder and ask why
He would make such sacrifice.
Leave His home and suffer so
For mankind who sank so low.
The answer is very clear
Each time we look in our mirror.
There it is; the reason why
Jesus made such sacrifice.
Jesus died for you and me-
He gave all at Calvary.
If, my friend, you still don't see,
Then look up John, chapter three.
