Just throwing words together
A sort of mental cooking pot
Each one carelessly selected
Then see just what we've got
Do they run together
Do they fit and chime
Does the rhythm flow
Do we keep the rhyme
Just throwing words together
Not really just a mental sport
A clearance of an active mind
Expressions of troubled thought
The duty of the poet
Showing that they care
Sometimes just saying
What no one else dare
Just throwing words together
Words deep from my very soul
Perhaps just my way of staying
Mentally purged and more whole
Saying what I believe in
Asking sometimes why
Sometimes so frustrating
Each word an awful cry
Just throwing words together
Hoping they merge and blend
To engage your full attention
Until each thought stream end
And if all understand
Every each word I say
I feel my task is done
In my individual way
Just throwing words together
Be they poetry or even song
Maybe of love and anguish
Maybe of right and wrong
To have that special gift
To use words with beauty
Imposes on each poet
A sometimes onerous duty
