 ~Friends~

The Tired Lion

All your life you got friends
I now call them aquaintances

Some of them, pull you in
You take 1 step forward
and 3 steps back
Never getting anywhere

Some of them, play the game
Getting what they want
and moving on

On the prowl, always prowling
for another" friend"
to use and abuse
and moving on

I often wondered
why they could turn the page
But I was stuck on the same one

I then decided
there is something wrong
With this picture

My heart is strong
but I let them weaken it
they teach me to distrust
they teach me to ponder,
too much

My pride is strong
but I let them weaken it
they are caught in lies
but knowing it's wrong
I still toss it aside

My soul is strong
but I let them weaken
I watch the games
I watch the pain
I watch the death

Of friendship
So many times

But then I remember
A friend
Always a friend
No matter what
He's got my back

My real friend
Makes my heart strong
With a hug and
gentle words of encouragement
Never to give up

My real friend
Makes my tattered pride
weave itself back together
Always for the right reason
Because he knows me

My real friend
Makes my soul come back
from the evilness I sought
for one reason or another

So many times

That friend knows too
that with him I will walk
3 steps forward
never going back

That friend knows
in the book of life
Our pages will always turn
towards the end
Together

So many times
our strength was taken
sapped from us like the
drought on the desert floor
on the hottest of days

But

We are real friends
We will never NOT be there
We will never NOT keep
our hearts, spirits and souls intact

Because that is what a friend does
They take the 3 steps forward
They heal your heart
They restore your pride
They get back your soul
He trusts you with his heart
He trusts you with his friendship
He believes in you
Even when you don't
believe in yourself

Even when you think all was lost
Even when you are in your darkest hours
Even when you think death is better then life

A real friend takes your hand and says
"Come on friend, we'll get through this together"
A real friend tells you
"I love you" and means it...

We may not have many in this life
the real Genuine Friend
So if you have one
Hold on tight and never let go...

The moral of this story is:
I'm babbling cause I was just thinking about my real friend.
His name is Terry and I think i'll give him a call.
