MY OTHER SON
When they met it was love at first sight,
He was her best friend's boyfriend,
Could have been a big fight;
My daughter was 16, he was 19 years old,
He impressed me right off as being very bold.
He was a great dancer and skater, would sing and hum,
Would often sit drowsily sucking on his thumb;
He endeared himself to me in a very short while,
Melted my heart with his beautiful smile.
I used to thrill to the sound of their quiet laughter,
Thought they'd be together forever after;
But sometimes things happen that we can't understand,
Situations have a habit of getting out of hand.
They gradually broke up, went their separate ways,
The whole thing sort of left us all in a daze;
Years have gone by and he's part of us yet,
They have three lovely children he will never forget;
The kids and I talk with him almost every day,
He does his best to support them come what may;
We never can foretell what the future may bring,
But if they'd reunite I'd dance and sing;
I've tried getting them back together
Every way that I possibly could,
It hasn't worked out so far, but yet...
Things have turned out pretty good.
