The wind was a razor sharp daggar which sliced through his pride
A blizzard separated his comrades hiding them from his side
His heart remimded him of the love he shared with his bride
Lost was his hope until he could find somewhere to hide
Exhausted from the force of the wind he had to rest a while
Stomach growling from starvation he noticed a cabin close by
All his choices vanished, his prayers for rescue were denied
Trembling he faced the harsh weather, he forgot the reasons why
A lonely wounded soldier wept as his life ebbed on by
He was glad to be alone so that nobody would see him cry
He could not go any further his fingers were stiff as he wrote
"In the snow I surrender to my Captain, whom I love in the sky
Say that I went to meet Jesus, with a soldier's courage, I die!"
