Heart Of The Matter

For A Friend

So here we are, at last we meet,
A chance encounter in a busy street,
A passing glance; and back again,
You look at me; I feel your pain,
You touch my hand, "hello", you say,
We haven't met before today,
And yet, I feel, our souls have touched,
And recognition means so much,
No words are spoken, yet much is said,
From mind to mind and head to head,
I know this man; his thoughts are mine,
And yes,
He knows of love divine.

Two kindred souls, one his, one mine,
A love to stand the test of time,
The years have passed, I wonder when,
I'll come to see that man again,
Perhaps he'll call, perhaps he'll write,
Maybe tomorrow, it's not tonight.
Until that day I'll wait, and send,
My healing thoughts to you, my friend.

I'll trust in God to keep you safe,
With love and light and His good grace.
We've met before, I'm sure of that,
If not on earth, some other place,
Our paths have crossed, there's no mistake,
And since that day, I sleep; I wake,
My every waking thoughts', with you,
How sure am I, you feel it too,
We've met before, we will again,
Maybe tomorrow,
Or when?
