‘For I will pour water on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring,
and my blessing on your descendants.'
Isaiah 40:11 carries me through
‘He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.'
I look to a wood to the right
Hearing a stream dance with endless praise.
Ezekiel 47:12 says it all.
‘Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river.
Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail.'
I walk beside the stream of living waters
And listen to the word come to life.
‘Jeremiah 31:9 is what I hear,
‘I will lead them beside streams of water
on a level path where they will not stumble.'
Before long I am wadding in the stream
The Lord leading the way
Some rocks in my life passing me by
Yet I do not stumble.
My soul sings Psalm 42:1
‘As the deer pants for the streams of water,
so my soul pants after you.'
The Lord replies with His word
Isaiah 41:17
‘The poor and needy search for water, but there is none;
their tongues are parched with thirst.
But I the LORD will answer them;
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.'
Then Isaiah 58:11
‘The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.'
The praise in my heart lifts up high
I raise my hands to my maker.
I stand in awe and wonder.
I reach the end of the wood
The stream still bubbling with passion.
Indecision wrestles within me
Dry mountains rest in the distance
Parched ground lies beneath my feet.
The Lord states his word again
Isaiah 41:18-19
‘I will make rivers flow on barren heights,
and springs within the valleys.
I will turn the desert into pools of water,
and the parched ground into springs.
I will put in the desert
the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive.
I will set pines in the wasteland,
the fir and the cypress together,'
My spoken words are Psalm 63:1
‘O god, you are my God,
Earnestly I seek you;
My soul thirsts for you,
My body longs for you,
In a dry and weary land
Where there is no water.'
The eyes of my heart fix on Jesus,
His glory becoming mine.
An eagle soaring high,
Bringing golden dreams.
Bringing promises from above.
Deuteronomy 32:11
‘Like an eagle that stirs up its nest
and hovers over its young,
that spreads its wings to catch them
and carries them on its pinions.'
My hope rises to the Lord
And Isaiah 40:31 repeats in my heart.
‘But those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.'
I stand in awe and adoration
The Lord's love holding me there.
I kneel before my king
Gaze upon His glorious holiness.
Jesus bends before me,
Sprinkles me with his living water.
My yoke lifts so I carry his yoke
Heaviness lifts from my soul.
A tongue of praise leaves my lips
I cup my hand and take a drink
The living water quenching my soul's thirst.
The Lord takes my hand, leads me forth.
His promise in Isaiah 43:2 is spoken.
‘When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.'
The Lord takes me into his river of life.
We swim as fish in running waters.
The Lord reminding me again.
Isaiah 43:16 and 19
‘This is what the LORD says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.'
The currant of the river is strong,
But with the Lord's strength I move on
We reach the source, a satisfying pool.
Holy waterfall cascading down
Psalm 104:13 springs to mind.
‘He waters the mountains from his upper chambers;
The earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work.'
With strides of passion I reach the waterfall
And Psalm 42:7 sighs its breath in my heart;
‘Deep calls to deep
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.'
