I saw him first as he came in, with shoulders bent his face a-grin
His voice was low as whispers are, his eyes as bright as heaven's stars
My PC needed urgent care and he had come to make repairs
To my ring his answer came and to my door he called my name

I sat to watch him fast at work and from his job he never shirked
His features changed as he worked on, his jolly smile had sadly gone
Until I saw his work was done, a conversation he begun
To my surprize he was at ease which was a pleasant thing for me

My wheelchair often cause a block to certain folks who stare with shock
But the elder man bent down with ease, then he rested on his heels
His eyes met mine in peace that day, and they were a lovely shade of gray
I saw with joy he knew us folks who have to bend our heads backwards

We often shout to answer clear and suffer many ugly stares
"I'm so sad that you are alone" he spoke to me in gentle tones
And then a single tear fell slow, as he gave his nose a blow
"I was there beside my friends in WW11, right to the end!"
