Fleeing ran a weeping maiden through the rustic forest floor
Lost in turmoil of betrayal at her lover's bedroom door
From a sight so much disturbing, she escaped into the night
Caring nought for rain or thunder, drenched in lost love's plight
^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^
For another shared his kisses and left a scent of perfume rare
Where he promised love eternal as she pledged her's, oh so fair
On she ran broken hearted as much colder grew the night
At a hanging weeping willow, 'twas the sad end of her flight
^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^ ^j^
Beside the dew-filled branches, she gave up her will to fight
So her spirit lives forever at that spot, her empty grave
Her doomed love joined the raindrops and with tears a river made
Poor lovely little maiden, a free spirit, happy there
